A Cancer Research Center Provides Cutting-Edge Diagnosis And Treatment

The cancer research center is a fairly recent phenomenon. When President Richard Nixon announced his war on this disease in 1972 the number of these study facilities, which was extremely small, started to blossom. The federal government got the ball rolling with the inclusion of the centers of disease control as the federal governments main focus on this problem in the United States. With the CDC as the hub the federal government began establishing other federal facilities whose focus was solely on cancer. That was soon matched by the private sector, which built and marketed their organizations nationwide for treatment and exploration into a cure for this disease. As a result many state of the art science based organizations came into being in the United States. Many of these are now known worldwide as some of the best organizations to contact if you or a loved one are diagnosed with this disease.
Clinical studies continue to be a central focus the cancer research center. This has recently produced some startling results. Lately an international effort involving over 100 institutions worldwide has uncovered dozens of markers in human DNA that can help reveal a person's risk for many kinds of cancers including breast, ovarian and prostrate. Another breakthrough discovery is a new powerful immunotherapy that uses a modified HIV virus that can train the human immune system to attack the disease and cause remission. Immunotherapy is a new treatment therapy that is being given more and more attention.
Many of these facilities also conduct clinical trials. Clinical trials are used in a cancer research center to test new methods to detect, treat, and improve the quality and comfort of the lives of people who have been diagnosed. Many of these clinical trials are a direct result of ongoing research. There are a variety of trial types and trial phases that are completed before a methodology is determined. The trial types include prevention, detection, screening, diagnosis, and treatment. Trial phases are used to show the applicability of each phase in a new treatment. These phases include phase I, which is used to determine side effects and dosage. Phase II, which reveals how well the treatment works against various forms of the disease. Phase III compares the safety and effectiveness of a new drug or therapy against standard treatments and Phase IV studies, which are used to provide additional information about a new therapies effectiveness. Another popular trial form today is a trial to test new chemotherapy protocols and radiation techniques.
These new modern facilities have all been made possible by not only our advancing medical knowledge but also the additional funding made available by the government and the private sector to come up with a cure for one of the most frightening diseases in the history of mankind. So if ever you or a loved one are diagnosed with or are given the news that you have a positive diagnosis don't give up and lose all hope. This problem is slowly being solved and those doctors in the forefront of this disease are there to not only help you but to also cure you.

How a Neurologist Can Help You

A neurologist is a physician who deals with conditions that are associated with the nerves and the nervous system. This kind of doctor has received specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that relate to the brain, muscles, peripheral nerves and the spinal cord. The majority of the time, a primary care physician will refer a patient to this kind of specialist if they are exhibiting symptoms that point to a neurological problem.
Some of the most common diseases that are managed by a neurologist include stroke, neurological trauma, tumors and infections of the nervous system, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and other types of autoimmune diseases. This doctor also treats patients who suffer from peripheral nerve diseases, dementia and neuromuscular diseases. A doctor may also send a patient for a consultation to this type of physician as a result of headaches, sleep disorders and movement disorders.
A family doctor may not be certain after examining a patient if they are showing the signs of having a neurological problem or if there is something else wrong with their health. There are some symptoms a practitioner will recognize as being a good reason to refer a patient to a neurologist.
The advice of a specialist in the area of the nervous system would be useful for those who are suffering from severe headaches, as well as sudden onset headaches. Practically everyone suffers from a headache once in a while. Not every pain in the head is a sign of a major health problem. Often they are the result of tension or a mild illness such as sinus congestion or a cold. However, some individuals suffer from more extreme pain in their head region, such as frequent migraines. In the rarest of cases, a headache can be brought about by something major, such as pressure on the skull or bleeding into the brain. In this case, seeing a neurologist for treatment would be smart.
Chronic pain is another reason that a physician may feel it is in the best interests of a patient to have them examined by a healthcare provider who specializes in everything nerve related. There are plenty of people who suffer from pain in their neck or lower back region. While this type of discomfort can often be treated by a family doctor, sometimes a specialist will become involved if it is accompanied by other issues, such as numbness, weakness, or problems with controlling the bladder or the bowels.
Dizziness can be symptomatic of any number of medical problems. A nerve specialist may be consulted when a patient is experiencing vertigo and disequilibrium. When vertigo takes place, there is a sensation of spinning, as if one were on the merry-go-round at the fair. Disequilibrium relates to a lack of balance or coordination. A person may experience one or both of these problems. The causes for these issues may be minor, but in some instances, can be serious and should be checked out right away.

The Busy Entrepreneurs Guide To Getting In Shape

Being "too busy" to get in shape is just an excuse you've become accustomed to.
Whether you like it or not, it's still possible for you to get in the best shape of your life. Being stuck in the 9 to 5, or grinding in the 14 hour day still leaves you time.
All you need is a no brainer exercise plan, focused nutrition habits and a knowledgeable wellness coach to guide you through the process.
Gone are the days of thinking about the past.
"Man, remember when I could bench 300lbs with my eyes closed."
Or
"I use to be able to do a half somersault, knee tuck, toe grab in the air."
Well my friend, high school is over and you're now living a life that is more challenging both mentally and physically. Your mind and body takes a beating everyday whether you realize it or not.
Just think back. How did most people look in high school? They appeared in shape and could eat anything they wanted. Football players chiseled and cheerleaders were the talk of the party.
And guess what?
Reality hit and they're all fat with no sign of muscle.
I recently talked with an old friend and he said grabbing his belly, "I really want to do something about this."
I feel for him. He has a loving family, a great business but he feels like crap most days.
But he shouldn't feel that way.
Busy entrepreneurs and business professionals just like him are able to live hectic lives and still manage their health and fitness.
I know this because I'm just that guy.
I've started a family, just bought a new house, run a multinational organization, started a new venture, travel around the world and have a shit ton of other things pulling for my attention.
Yet with all that said, I still take care of my mind, body and soul. Health and fitness is a huge priority.
And if your up for feeling just like I do, I can help you too.
You're thinking about it all wrong.
You're not in high school anymore. Downing the protein shakes and being in the gym for hours isn't an option.
Get it out of your head and take it off your vocabulary list. You are no longer in high school.
Frankly, what you did back then was pretty stupid anyway. You were young and could get away with it.
You also had the time to sit in the gym and worry about nothing else.
Just maybe if we had the proper fitness and wellness coach we could have gotten our shit together, but we didn't. Men and women alike wasted time doing crap that didn't matter and wasn't sustainable.
Sadly enough, those nagging pains you may feel today are the product of your silly ambitions back then. Aching knees and elbows anyone?
You don't have to train like you did in high school to get in shape and you don't want to.
I have something for you that works way better and is manageable in your hectic life. It will take you less time and you can fit it in whenever.
First: Workout smarter, in less time
Forget the two a days or the 6 days a week and rest on Sunday approach. The popular magazines are your worst nightmare, drop these as your go to resource.
Each week all you need to do is this:
  • 2 x 30 minute walks outdoors. Do it with your family, dog, or whoever.
  • 3 x 20 − 30 minute resistance exercise workouts - bodyweight and / or compound full-body lifts.
  • 1 x 15 minute interval exercise session - preferably outdoors and sprints if you've worked up to them.
So, instead of spending 8 hours a week in the gym - not including travel time - you could be doing less than 3 hours a week. And the CRAZY part is it can all be done from the comfort of your own home.
You can do it on your own time, when you feel up for it. Your life is demanding and having the flexibility to fit it in your schedule is key. No commitments holding you back.
It's not too good to be true. It's reality and if you give it a try you'll see what it can do for you. This is what gave me the motivation to offer wellness coaching for busy people who feel like crap and think theirs no way out.
Even the busiest of person can get in shape.
Next: Don't follow mainstream nutrition advice
Yes, exercise is a critical ingredient to you're getting fit recipe but without nutrition it is pointless. For busy, highly stressed people wanting to lose weight, nutrition is critical to their success. Easing into new nutrition habits is key, so you don't overwhelm yourself.
Again, forget what you did back in the day or what you hear on the news. Even worse the crap you hear on the commercials. Low fat, 100 calorie pack extravaganza anyone? Maybe a grilled chicken breast, broccoli stir fry and call it a night recipe?
These aren't for you. You've changed and so has your nutrient needs.
You can't possibly expect your kids and spouse to eat this way. It's boring dull and will only do harm. They're not the next bodybuilding sensation.
During the first 2 weeks in my wellness coaching program I will recommend small changes for their specific needs. We call these small wins. For my friend mentioned in the earlier story he started his first week taking fish oil, Vitamin D and an organic multivitamin (not the highly funded, highly advertised brands).
After the first week we began introducing new nutrition strategies that were specific to his needs. Some were for how and what he was eating, while others were for how much and when he was eating. Slow and methodical wins the race.
Everyone has unique challenges and we focus everything around that.
And then: Think less, do more
For busy professionals who have a family and stressed to the max, thinking less and doing more is ideal.
Maybe if you were back in high school you could read all the fitness literature, do hours of research, and come up with some ridiculous nutrition and exercise programs. But you don't have that time and I would bet no matter how much you research a wellness coach could still do better.
But since you're not in the "way back when" period your focus is on being a loving spouse and parent, busting your ass at work, and making sure that food is on the table and the bills paid.
Am I right? And after that how much time do you really have anyway?
When if comes to your health, finding someone who can help you with your wellness goals is so valuable. All you have to do is focus on doing. Nothing else, just do.
By trusting in my wellness coaching program you can live life without having to stress over all of the agonizing details. Just listen, learn and do.
Don't get discouraged.
Life may seem chaotic, time may be flying by and your body may not look or feel like it use to. But don't give up.
No matter how busy you are or where life has taken you, you can still get in shape and feel great. By focusing on a no brainer exercise plan, focused nutrition habits and a knowledgeable wellness coach, you too can get there.
Every day, busy business professionals just like you choose my coaching program to help prioritize their own health and fitness. It's possible as crazy as it may seem.
But regardless if you choose me as your wellness coach or not, please do something.
Life flies by and 10 extra pounds can easily lead to 50 extra pounds. High blood pressure can lead to a heart attack. And poor nutrition can lead to modern day problems like autoimmune disease followed by arthritis, thyroid dysfunction, colitis and a hundred other problems.
So while you sit there reading this, do you have the time NOT to get in shape? Will that lead you to your life goals? Tough questions worth answering.
Last: Get started with a wellness coach
If you would like some direction, I would be thrilled to help.
I am currently open for new clients looking to make this change through my wellness coaching program. Since I also manage a heavy work schedule, have a family, travel and manage to stay fit, space is very limited.

Sports Massage - Easing The Pain Of Tired And Exhausted Muscles

Are you one among those individuals who work 8 to 9 hours a day? Do you even have the energy to work that long? It's really hard to work for a prolonged period of time and at times, you get to push your body's limits. Athletes endure the same stress and weariness as they have to work and train hard each day. In fact, they even need to surpass their limits each day. That's how intensive their practices are in order to properly hone their skills and better their performance. However, regardless if you're an athlete or an ordinary office worker (who spends most of his time inside the office, sitting four couple of hours), it's essential to opt for sports massage from time to time.
Generally, you don't have to be an athlete to get the benefits of sports massage. But if you're an office worker, why not opt for the ordinary massage? Sports massage focuses on parts of the body (muscles) that are overly used during the work or practice. By focusing on these parts, the body doesn't simply get rid of the stress but also improves the performance as well as the condition of the muscles, thus preventing any severe injuries in the future. Moreover, sports massage is being incorporated in rehabilitation programs and proves to be a great help in the recovery and strengthening of injured athletes.
Also, one other good thing about storage massage the benefits can also be felt by those who have an active way of life (those who loves adventure and usually spends most of his free time outdoors). Individuals such as this will also require and seek massage in order to soothe their tired and exhausted muscles and it's best for them to seek private health facility centers that can offer medical services to massages to trainings.
Here's another reason why opt for sports massage. Extreme sports or adventures will get the muscles tired strenuously, thus requiring more extensive massage. Apart from focusing on specific muscles and body parts, sports massage is usually more extensive than normal massages. When overly tired muscles are ignored or didn't get the proper massaging that it needs, there's a high chance that it'll lead to injuries or will have a negative effect in your performance.
This is why fitness experts and sports trainer recommend before and after-game massages to most athletes in order to maintain the condition and ease immediately the pain that their tired muscles are enduring. If you want to succeed in your sports career or just want to have a fitter and stronger muscles and body, all it takes is a properly-done massage from time to time.

Plica Syndrome of the Knee

Plica syndrome of the knee is associated with chronic overuse, inflammatory conditions, and knee injury. The medial plica is one of the four plica that are found in the knee. This piece of the lower end of the kneecap runs sideways and attaches to the lower aspect of the thighbone.
How does a plica cause problems in the knee?
A plica that becomes irritated causes knee pain. This occurs as a result of repetitive motions, certain exercises, or from kneeling. Any activity that causes repetitive bending and straightening of the knee can cause knee plica syndrome, such as stair-climbing, running, or biking. When the knee is struck near the medial plica from a fall or car accident, knee plica syndrome can develop. These types of injuries cause the plica and the tissue around it to swell and become painful.
What are the signs and symptoms?
The main symptom of plica syndrome is pain. There is frequently a snapping sensation along the inside aspect of the knee when it is bent. This is caused by the rubbing of the thickened plica over the edge of the thighbone where it enters the joint. The knee may also be tender to touch and swollen.
How is plica syndrome diagnosed?
The orthopedic specialist diagnoses plica syndrome during a physical examination or at an arthroscopic surgery procedure. X-rays, a CT scan, and/or a MRI may be done to rule out other problems. X-rays rule out fractures, and the MRI shows soft tissue injuries. The CT scan can detect a thickened plica in some cases. To confirm the diagnoses and treat the problem at the same time, the orthopedic specialist may perform an arthroscopy.
What is the treatment?
The orthopedic specialist may treat plica syndrome by resting the knee joint and with anti-inflammatory medications. If these conventional measures do not ease the pain of the knee, the doctor may inject cortisone into the joint.
Cortisone is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. For serious cases of plica syndrome, surgical removal of the plica may be necessary. This procedure is done with an arthroscope, using a small camera and tiny instruments to remove the inflamed tissue. The area left once the plica is removed heals with minimal scarring. Plica resection is often needed. The goal of treatment is to reduce the inflammation and restore function.
What is involved with the rehabilitation process?
If your doctor treats you non-surgically, you should return to normal activity within 4 to 6 weeks. It may be necessary for you to see a physical therapist during this time to learn stretching and strengthening exercises. Other therapies include friction massage, ultrasound, and ice applications, all done to decrease the inflammation associated with plica syndrome. If you have surgery, you will need physical therapy to help you regain strength and function.
Visit Dr. Franklin's website to learn more about what he offers in the Seattle area. He specializes in arthroscopy and sports medicine.
